We are delighted to release our first straight leg cut (SL). These SLs offer you an alternative to our standard bootcut finish. Why did we do it? Many customers were asking for something that had a tight, clean finish. Something a bit more conservative, and that tends to work better for certain body types (especially taller, slender gentlemen). We remain committed to offering you both our Bonobos Bootcut (BBC) and our new straight leg (SL) in a broad variety of styles that meet all of your trouser needs. We listen to you guys and you give us great ideas. Keep ‘em coming.
How did we pick the name? Funny story. Our friend Michael Loesel was an MBA intern at Brunswick, a Chicago industrial conglomerate legendary for it's bowling division and its portfolio of venerated boat brands. Loesel was in a meeting with the senior leadership discussing a highly advanced new motor drive (think docking a 100-ft motor yacht with ease, driving the enormous boat sideways into a dock). The technology was set to make a big splash at the next boat show, but they needed a name. The young intern, out of nowhere, pipes in "let's call it the Zeus-5000." Silence. Some consternation. A bit of "who the f&*@ is this kid?" But then agreeable smiles began to crease the tanned faces of these boating execs…. "Sounds pretty damn good…" and "Zeus! I like it…" "but what does the 5000 stand for?". Loesel replied, "nothing. It's just a number. But consumers love it. Always make sense to arbitrarily add a big-sounding number. Makes it sound high tech, innovative… you know, advanced." The Zeus-5000? Genius. Apocryphal? Perhaps.
The SL5000 trouser is a tribute to Michael, toasting the notion of the youngest guy in the room coming up with the best idea. We love the SL5000, because it is warm and fuzzy and soft and luxurious. Also, it looks awesome with nearly everything.
Like some of our more formal Bonobos, the silk rainbow liner does not show through the back pockets. Perfect for even the most conservative work environments.
