In the most remote steppe in the shadows of the Ural Mountains there is a legendary country known only to a few peripatetic herders and, apparently, the jefe of our Spanish corduroy mill, who told us this story. It’s a tale of the ancient origins of our tan corduroy.
Javier explained over a jar of Sangria one night: “Centuries before our land was trampled unmercifully by the hooves of dumb beasts it was the most fertile land in the world. My ancestors thrived, growing wheat in perfect rows that touched every edge of the sky. For generations, we lived peacefully and happily. Until one day barbarians attacked and we fled, eventually settling here in Spain. My great-great-great-great grandfather, in memory of those perfect rows of sun-kissed wheat, created this tan fabric and named it for our beloved country, Kahkistan!”
Another apocryphal Bonobos story? Perhaps. But we love Javier’s fabric. In tribute to Javi and his fabled ancestral home, we offer you the Khakistans: super soft tan cord with subtle stretch and a deftly matched liner, a print internally nicknamed Spanish Lavender.
