The New Amsterdam
Although it’s easy to forget, it’s also not so very hard to be reminded: New York City
was once a Dutch colony. Brooklyn, Harlem, Gansevoort, Stuyvesant, and naturally
Hoyt-Schermerhorn – there’s a reason so much of Bonobos’ hometown rings with
hints of Holland. And while today, that rich legacy may reside solely in the Dutch
twang of street names and the yearly herring festival at Grand Central’s Oyster Bar,
it ought not be forgotten. For once upon a time, the Bouwerij wasn’t a string of cool
dive bars, but a cowpath into market; Breukelen wasn’t a haven for bohemians, but
a gentle cluster of farms; and the wild Konijnen Island was home to far more rabbits
than it was to amusement parks. Once upon a time, this New York City wasn’t New
York at all, but New Amsterdam . . . a promising young colony indeed.
To honor this fascinating facet of New York City’s heritage, as well as the sheer
magnificence of herringbone itself (herring is, after all, the favored Dutch dish),
Bonobos is proud to offer the New Amsterdam blazer. Crafted from Italian wool in
a crisp herringbone weave, the New Amsterdam is in the unique position of being
both a wardrobe showcase item and a staple. Luxurious doesn’t begin to describe it,
but we’ve got to begin somewhere. This is a jacket that will take you places.
Details:
Bonobos has toiled long and hard to make the fit of our blazers this year even better.
We made the fit across the chest more accommodating so more of you out there
can wear it. We made tailoring it to perfection even easier by making the button
cuffs non-functioning. We boosted the heft of the pockets and interlining for added
durability. We kept the same great attention to detail and appreciation of fine
European fabrics and old world craftsmanship from some of our friends up north
in Canadia. If you've tried one of our wonderful blazers before, you'll be amazed at
how far we've come. If you haven't tried one before, now's the time to jump in the
boat.
