The Foundation - Grey

What you need to know

There are a handful of things a man simply must have: a trade to call his own, a pair of sturdy shoes to get where he’s going, some basic knowledge of drink-smithery, and a high-quality, all-purpose suit ready for when he needs it. And when it comes to the last of those masculine essentials, any of three classic colors will suffice: grey, charcoal, or navy. Combine that palette with world-class materials, craftsmanship, and fit, and you’ll find yourself with one amazing suit, ready for any and every occasion. With this in mind, Bonobos is understandably excited to present the true foundation upon which a wardrobe is built; the fundamental great-fitting suit that every man wants and needs, crafted from the finest Italian Marzotto wool, tailored for the most perfect of fits. Introducing: The Foundation Suit, new from Bonobos.

Bonobos has toiled long and hard to make the fit of our suits this year even better. We made the fit across the chest snug but not constraining for a trim look that's also comfortable. We made tailoring it to perfection even easier by making the button cuffs non-functioning. We boosted the heft of the pockets and interlining for added durability, and narrowed the lapels for a more modern look. We kept the same great attention to detail and appreciation of fine European fabrics and old world craftsmanship. If you've tried one of our wonderful suits before, you'll be amazed at how far we've come. If you haven't tried one before, now's the time to jump in the boat.

Modern slim lapel & non-functioning button cuffs.
100% Marzotto® Wool. Dry clean only.
Standard Fit – cut for a snug, flattering fit across the chest and shoulders with a slight taper through the waist. Pants are straight leg, and feature a curved waistband for a better fit and no bunching of fabric.
Matching Foundation Suit Vest also available.

Photos don't do it justice!

This is an excellent suit, and I couldn't be more happy I made this investment. I would put the wool at super 100s which is great day-to-day workhorse material. Also one of the most comfortable linings I've ever had. After a few requisite alterations (which I would do with any suit) it fit like a glove. The cut is very modern and slim, while remaining professional. Even though I've only had it for a few weeks, I've already received countless compliments. I also love the color which is easily complimented by black or brown shoes and belts. I'm dinging it a star for two reasons. The first is construction. While quality of the materials is generally excellent, with the exception of the plastic buttons, the jacket is entirely fused. Secondly, although $590 used to be an absolute bargain for a decently made suit, these days it's only about $60 away from entering entry-level custom territory. At very least, there are canvassed options available at this price point. Overall though, I'd like to reiterate that this is an excellent suit which I am very happy with and wouldn't hesitate in recommending.
