While tempting to attribute this name to a famously stalemated arm-wrestling competition between Dartmouth and Stanford, the actual genesis is much more factual, and considerably more cable-y. Back in Jolly Old – England, that is – there stands a mighty cable-stayed bridge across the Thames, at a centuries-old crossing called Dartford. Opened by the Queen herself, the 449 foot high and 2,664 foot long bridge has become something of a symbol for the historic Dartford district just east of London, famous for the strength and beauty of its cables. With that in mind, not to mention the red and blue of the Union Jack, it seemed appropriate to name a formidable new Bonobos cable-knit sweater as such. Meet the Dartford.
